Infection, Prevention & Control

This course supports the dental team in working in line with current industry guidance, including HTM 01-05, the Health and Social Care Act, and NICE (CG139). It incorporates a practical element to actively involve the whole team and reinforce key principles

The training meets Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements for

decontamination within the dental treatment environment, including:

  • Regulation 15: Premises and equipment

  • Regulation 12: Safe care and treatment

Training objectives:

  • Update knowledge of HTM 01-05 and current regulations and best practice

  • Understand the importance of sharps safety

  • Review waste management in line with HTM 07-01

  • Reinforce the importance of effective hand hygiene

  • Understand what infections are and how they are transmitted

  • Identify healthcare-associated infections

  • Review the application of standard infection control precautions

  • Understand cleaning procedures for equipment and the clinical environment

  • Review the safe transportation, decontamination, sterilisation, and storage of instruments

  • Understand the correct use of equipment, including maintenance, testing, and validation
